Hello, my name is Tom

I am a BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist based in Leeds, welcome to my website.

I am a warm and down to earth professional with a lot of experience helping people, often men, who have got stuck or who are feeling lost or distressed.

How I work

I work by creating a therapeutic relationship with you. Within this relationship, we address the difficulties you are experiencing. I bring a calm, reassuring presence within which you will feel safe, heard and understood.

I combine elements of different therapeutic approaches. For example, I bring strategies to help address problems that are here and now, typical of cognitive behavioural therapy. I also provide reflective space to explore and understand where or how these difficulties might have started. I adapt my approach to meet the needs of each individual person. At present I work solely with individuals.

Issues I work with

These include but are not limited to: anxiety, depression, stress, childhood trauma, bereavement and loss, relationship problems, issues around neurodivergence, alcohol and substance abuse, work-related stress, self-esteem.

Qualifications and training

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy (Distinction)

  • BA (Hons) Philosophy

I have completed many training courses including:

  • Mental Health Awareness

  • Mental Health First Aid

  • Safeguarding

  • Safetalk suicide awareness

  • Self-harm awareness

  • Domestic violence

  • Trauma and trauma-informed practice

I am trauma-informed in all my work; I understand how exposure to trauma, especially in childhood, can impact us as adults in various ways.

Aside from my private practice I have most recently been working as a trauma-focused counsellor in an NHS setting, working with adults who have had childhood trauma or adverse childhood experiences.

Location

I am based at the Tower Clinic in Cookridge, Leeds. The clinic is a short distance from the Leeds ring road, has onsite parking and is easily accessible from Adel, Bramhope, Otley, Headingley, West Park, Weetwood, Cookridge and LS16.

My fee is £60 for a 50 minute session.
